Here to Heart(2018)
- Zhang Hans (he was not the original choice to play Nanxian, but I am glad he accepted the role---I couldn't imagine any other Nanxian) as CEO Zhan Nanxian, CEO of Qianyu Company(Shallow Cosmos)Even if he is the fake boyfriend of Bo Yi Xin, he's always been her Knight in Shining Armour so when there was a scene in a KTv room where Wen Nuan was being taken advantage of and he just watched I yelled, "Unfair!" because it seemed like the "contract" was more important to him than her honour. Sigh. He's supposed to be so in love with her, and...(of course, you just have to watch and see if his actions were justified or not)
- Yao Junzhe as young Nanxian
- Janine Chang/Chang Chun-ning as Wen Nuan, Zhan Nanxian's first love (her beauty is a combination of some of my friends and some known Filipinas). She's a smart, beautiful and talented woman, but she's like a doormat most of the time.
- Wang Zixuan as young Nuan.
- Ji Xiao Bing as Gao Fang, Zhan Nanxian's Business Partner and Friend (I really wouldn't have minded if he was the one chosen to play Nanxian---hehehehe).
- Liang David/Liang Dawei as Pan Wei Ning, Zhu Lin Lu's ally, a man who truly loves Bo Yi Xin, but uses unscrupulous manners to get what he wants(schemer).
- Jin Kim/Jin Zehao as Guan Ti, Zhan Nanxian's friend and Biz Partner who falls for Wen Nuan's assistant, Ding Xiaodai , oh and he is the most "childlike" among the three friends/biz partners.
- Zhang Jenny as Yi Xin, One of the Chinese Superstars. She's Nanxian and Nuan's schoolmate who loved Nanxian ever since they were in the University. She was also Wen Nuan's best friend, but later on she resented and envied her.
- Shang Siqi as young Yi Xin.
- Jing Chao as General Manager Zhu Lin Lu, Wen Nuan's current (pretend) Beau who loves her
- Lin Yongju as young Linlu.
- Zhou Qi Qi/Jocelyn Zhou as Wen Rou, Wen Nuan's older sister who is a finance expert.
This is the first Mainland China Netflix series that I have binge watched during the pandemic "season", and I enjoyed it very much even if the series has mixed reviews. Most of the viewers and the critics disliked it.
The two leads, Zhan Nanxian as played by Yao Junzhe(Zhang Hans/Hans Zhang plays the present day Nanxian) and Wen Nuan as played by Wang Zixuan(Chang Chun-ning/Janine Chang plays the present day Nuan), met in the university(they just looked so young, but they were already in college then). They parted ways (almost) seven years ago when the Nanxian and his friends were about to start a business, right after college. Their reason for parting was not clear to us and to Nanxian. All he knew was that he was happy that day, and he even gave her a pair of little turtles, but she broke up with him while returning the turtles. He kept begging and begging her to have him back until one day, while it was raining(drizzling), Wen Nuan chose to ride the rich kid's(Zhu Linlu) car...a little after that she disappeared for more than six years(ergo, they say seven years, whether it's more than six years(less than seven years) or a little more than seven years) and stayed in the United Kingdom most of those years while working for a company that have meaning to both of our leads, among OTHER reasons(shown in the trailer above). When she returns to Shanghai, Nanxian and his friends already own a corporation with many branches abroad, including the UK. The main branch is in a skyscraper they built(or bought).

HONESTLY I don't get why the three friends named their company SHALLOW COSMOS. The logo shows flowers, so I thought it was safe to surmise that they are not talking about something out of this world, but somehow I am not certain about that. Hmm... Does anyone have any idea what shallow cosmos means, and why it's a good name for business? I tried searching for it, but I only get HERE TO HEART links. 谦语 or qiān yǔ translates to humble expression or humility. So why shallow cosmos? Mom thinks it's because they have every right to brag, but they remain humble, even if they are the next big thing in the multiverse. Why shallow? Are they lacking in depth? Or is it because through them EVERYTHING is reachable. Hmm... It makes sense. I'll just go with her analogy.
I started watching this series last year, but I shelved it not because it was not interesting, but it just happened that way. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months. Finally, I was able to finish watching this tonight.
My thoughts?
- There were dragging parts, but there were moments that made you feel the love between Nuan and Nanxian. Those kisses ARE explosive!
- The silly thing about me is that I liked that the characters repeated their clothes. It made them seem real...human. I am so SHALLOW. LOL.
- The advertisements weren't so subtle here, but somehow I liked the way they did it.
- I couldn't imagine how the actors who played Nanxian, Nuan, Rou, Yi Xin and Linlu as University students could morph into the actors who played them adults after ONLY seven(7) years. The lady who sells dumpling soup recognized Nuan as the girl Nanxian was dating during his days at the University. The actress should have looked similar for her to say she looks familiar. As I was blurting my thoughts out, mom said, "When you played a grandma who turned into a teenager in a Twilight Zone like play, did you look like the actress who played the grandma?" She has a point.
- When I was younger I learned about the one child policy, so I was a bit confused because certain characters have siblings here. Judging from their ages, they could not have been born before 1979 or after 2015.
- The side stories were pretty interesting too, but since they weren't listed as main characters, they should have been shorter.

- Guo Zi Quian as Ding Xiaodai, a staff member in Qianyu Company, secretary of Zhan Nanxian. She is also a good friend to Wen Nuan, but I wanted to pull her hair when she took all the piggy steamed buns from Wen Nuan. I also wanted to shout at Wen Nuan, "Why did you allow her to take EVERYTHING?"
- Joy Pan as Zhan Nanxian's mother whom Wen Nuan fondly calls Auntie Zhou...I understand her pain, but is Wen Nuan some sort of a God who could control the fate of airplanes???? Did she want to lose her Father as well????
- Ma Qiuzi as Du Xintong, a staff member in Qianyu Company who probably has some issues with Wen Nuan during their past life(or lives) because the animosity started from day one of Wen Nuan's arrival at Shallow.Cosmos.
- Chen Weidong as Guo Ruqian, Du Xintong's (common law?) husband, Research and Development expert.
- Li Xinzhe as Liu Rui, assistant of Wen Rou, who falls for her.
- Cai Gang as Leng Rufeng, CEO who used to own ALPHA
- Zhang Heng as Chi Bika, Shallow Cosmos' HR Director
