Toshi No Sakon(Marriage with a Wide Age Gap) 2020
FROM MY DRAMA LIST
This is my 3rd J Drama this "season", but only the first one I am writing about
A lot of viewers raised their eyebrows when they learned that the very loving father of Marukami Maiko arranged her to be the wife of Hanasato Harumi who is twenty years older than her, and not only that, he is a divorcé. What father in the right mind nowadays would set his beloved daughter up with an older man who is divorced?
After a few moments later, according to them, the viewers' hearts melted because of the chemistry of the two.
💙💚💙💚💙
The writer probably thought it was boring to be too fluffy, so some conflicts were added.
During one of those conflicts, I wondered why Maiko was so ignorant? She's twenty-four, and she's a married woman. Yes, her first real relationship is her husband, but she's an adult, and working at that. When her college friend who is working with her because of a project asks her out for a "date" in front of everyone, why did she say yes immediately? Why? She's not a child. Maybe even a child would even have more sense. It's a good thing she told him that she planned to stay with Harumi san forever.
Toshi no Sakon (Japanese Drama Review & Summary)-from Global Granary (it says 10 episodes here)
Even with the unnecessary parts, I like(not love) this short series. One episode is less than thirty minutes so I was able to watch all eight episodes in one day(with some breaks when I had to do other important matters, and of course, those calls of nature---LOL)
I love their bathtub scenes, but sorry to disappoint you who are looking for "more", but they were NOT sleazy scenes. They both were sweet scenes between a husband and a wife.
The first one was cute because they were both embarrassed at first, then it became a sweet and tender scene.
The second one was also cute because Harumi-san mentioned something only his(our) generation could get, baffling Maiko-san, but somehow it didn't matter.
Of course, with the wide age gap, it was understandable that there would be some misunderstandings, like a child to his parent or something. Generational gaps are common in any kind of relationship, but bridging the gap is VERY important.
(Minor spoiler) In the penultimate episode we would learn that Maiko's parents also had a wide age gap, and maybe that was one factor why he chose Harumi for her to meet. He only sort of introduced them, but after the third meeting, Maiko made her own choice to marry him, and they both fell in love with each other little by little.
Oh, and I also love how the straightforward Maiko defended their love.
I may not watch it again, but I am glad that I have been "given a chance" this "season" to do so.
