Reza Rehadian, although is not a crush, harmless or not, is definitely one of my favorite actors. I made a list of the movies or drama series that he is in, and this is one of them. 

The link above leads to the love story of Layla and Qais, the Majnun or a crazy or possessed person.

In modern times, Layla's Majnun is called Samir, played by Reza Rahadian.

Rehadian was able to convey every emotion Samir felt to the viewers so all of us felt his little joys and victories, as well as his feelings of sadness, emptiness, anger, frustration, et cetera. His speaking voice is sort of melodic, and so pleasing to the ears, and his eyes showed us and Layla(Acha Septriasa) how CRAZY he was about her.

I love the scenes in Azerbaijan. It's a beautiful country, and the people are beautiful too. Of course, Java is beautiful too,  and so are the people. Yes, like everywhere in the world there are power trippers, there are sone there like the one Layla is betrothed to, but since it's a worldwide "phenomenon", we cannot generalize. 

By the way, I almost hated her uncle until the end, but(minor spoiler) he was able to "show the world" that he truly loved his niece by giving her a wonderful "gift" towards the end of the movie... Oh, around that part of the movie we would realize that Layla's mom is a great swimmer. ☺️


BTW, Baim Wong, the guy who plays Ibnu, the corrupt regent wannabe is a good one. He plays or played the villain part quite well. He is physically attractive so I guess I should find movies with him as a lead actor too.

It was the year 2009 when I first heard about this film, most probably during The Academy Awards or a little after that. My mom and dad watched it and loved it then, but I wasn't really interested in watching it. Well, during that time my movie experiences were limited to films my brother RJ could be interested in watching or things my movie buddies were interested in watching.
