Halfway Point Review: Our Glamorous Time (2018)
If you want a REAL review, just click the link above(It tackles the first 25 episodes or so). I am just sending (some of) my thoughts to the universe.
Zhao Li Ying/Zanilla Zhao is a very versatile actor/actress. Although I am not certain, I think this is only second time I have seen her in a Chinese TV Drama, but I have already observed her chameleon like traits.
If in SHAN SHAN COMES TO EAT ZLY plays a carefree spirit with child like innocence, here she plays Lin Qian or Qian Qian(Chen Chen) who is the opposite of Shan Shan. Lin Qian is very bright and talented, but she's almost always a damsel in distress waiting for her knight/prince or Army Special Forces Major to save her. Who could blame her? She was so blessed to have been rescued by him before she was sold by human traffickers somewhere out there, and that started the unseen bond between them.
They parted ways before she could properly thank him, but when they saw each other again it took some time before Qian Qian recognized him.
Sigh.
At any rate, I love the action scenes. I don't really fancy Jin Han(who was only 25 years old at that time), but those flying kicks and other moves made(and still make) him more handsome and so appealing. His role as an Army Major suits him to a T.
My favorite scene between them is when (minor spoiler)Qian Qian and Zhi Cheng were running towards each other, not minding getting wet, and excitedly hugged and kissed each other. This was after Lin Qian made Ning Wei Kai(Johnny Zhang) win by default. When Lin Qian learned through Chen Ya Yi that Li Zhi Cheng was back from Yunnan safe and sound, she ran before reading the "description"(something like that), disqualifying her design to win the grand prize(in my opinion, Ning Wei Kai's design really looked better...and even if Lin Qian didn't run, the way Gao Lang(Ocean Jiang) carried Mr. Ning's design was so regal made him already an instant winner. No offense to the way Li Jin Yuan(Viola Liu) carried the pretty camouflage outfit...she's gorgeous, but I so much believe our antagonist deserved to be declared the winner. One of the reviewers said the phones were supposed to be off. Another reasoned that Ning Wei Kai and Lin Qian were both backstage, so the rules did not apply to them...well, something like...so that dramatic moment could happen. In any case, whether illogical or not, it's still my favorite scene of all.
✌️
There are other interesting stories in this series about other people like the love stories of other characters, the business side of things, Army life, design, fabrics, office life, family relationships, plus other stuff.
The protagonists are definitely NOT holy. The male protagonist(and his team) also uses tricks to get his way in business. I guess you could say he is the least evil(well, he's not evil, but...).
BTW, like the other viewers and reviewers, I love the relationship Lin Qian has with her brother Lin Mo Chen(Zhao Yi Wei). As the other observers observed(hehehehe---pardon me), their conversations explain how Lin Qian could afford to live in her beautiful house with her best friend Chen Ya Yi(Lin Yuan). It also shows that a brother and sister could have genuine concern for each other(well, a lot of movies and TV series show that, but their relationship, Qian and Mo Chen, is one of the most beautiful fraternal love ever).

I am really convinced that Chinese TV Dramas are also worth watching. In this "pandemic season" alone I have watched :
The Starry Night, The Starry Sea(which stars Zanilla Zhao's real life husband, Feng Shaofeng/William Feng whom she married in 2018...they have one child---if you are wondering if they have projects together, well they do. One of those projects where they fell in love in is called The Monkey King 3---I have yet to watch it); Fighter of Destiny; I Hear You; Here to Heart; parts of The Legendary Tycoon(I read several pieces that it is only 25% true. Well, that's the same percentage as some of the fictionalised biopics I have watched this season alone, but Hans Zhang's nice voice was not "used" in this series, so like the others who had the same reaction, I would have to shelve the great Run Run Shaw's life story for a while...ergo, it's a dropped drama for me); Boss & Me(Shan Shan Comes to Eat); and now this one.
Watching these Chinese TV Dramas, whether fantasy or "real" life, makes me understand the Chinese culture more. I have droplets of Chinese blood inside of me so it is good to learn about my the life of my ancestors.
Even in America my classmates refer to me as Chinese or Little China Girl or China Doll(but painters would recognize that my almond eyes look more Japanese than Chinese---one of my paternal great grandmothers is Japanese, but mom has Chinese blood(she also has Belgian and Spanish blood)), so why shouldn't I learn about the culture?
There is so much hatred for the Chinese worldwide. Why? Well, there's that territorial dispute(which is so understandable in our part, but to generalize all the Chinese, even to the point of calling the Chinese or all people from the Orient Viruses (Kung Flu) is just too much)
While growing up(before studying the Afro Asian literature, that is) the thing that stuck in my feeble brain is that the Crazy Rich Chinese in the Philippines do not want their "precious" children to marry Filipinos.
I heard people say, "Hmp! They get rich here, but they do not want their blood to mix with our blood!"
When I was little I asked some old timers why it was so. They, at least the ones I asked back then, did not really know why. All they knew was when they were little their parents were laughed at by Filipinos. The way they speak was often ridiculed alongside the way they looked. The Filipinos worshipped the mighty Caucasians(The Spanish, Germans, Americans et al), but trampled on the spirits of the intsik behos(old Chinese people), who were very enterprising ambulant vendors. Their good business sense made them so rich. When they got so rich here, they remembered all those people who maligned them, and... Well, that's hearsay.
